The Bohuslav Martinů Centre
is part of the Municipal Museum and Gallery in Polička and is located in the reconstructed building of a former grammar school, which houses a preserved historical classroom once attended by Martinů. The heart of the centre is the permanent exhibition The Colourful World of Bohuslav Martinů, complemented by an audiovisual hall and a research room. The museum manages an extensive archive containing more than 250 manuscripts, approximately a thousand letters, and the composer’s personal library.
A major attraction is the authentic birth room in the tower of St. James’s Church, where the Martinů family lived; it is accessible to visitors via 192 steps. The centre’s activities are closely linked with the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation and the Bohuslav Martinů Institute, which provide professional expertise and scientific projects, including the critical edition of his works. Thanks to this cooperation, Polička is not only a place of remembrance but also an active hub for Martinů research and activities.
